how taking time for you makes you a better person!

Day 15 of #365healthydays and today is about being selfish and how it can do you so much good, but also be really good for those around you. We all have lives, responsibilities, families, bosses, friends (and for some of us even puppies 😂🐕) that take our time and attention. So much of what we do, we do be because we have to – who thinks ‘oh YES! I get to load the washing machine. Again.’ No, me neither. And it can be easy to think that you just don’t have time for your workout, you have to much to do, just not today, you’ll rebook for tomorrow…. and then all of a sudden tomorrow is 3 years later, you are totally out of shape and you think having a shower that lasts longer than 3 minutes counts as ‘me time’. We have all heard about the multiple benefits of exercise beyond the physical and keeping you in shape – exercise induced endorphins greatly improve mood, increased blood flow improves circulation which improves the flow of nutrients around the body and the stimulation of the lymphatic system improves elimination of waste materials, exercise improves sleep, and we have already heard how good sleep improves mood and promotes weight loss. Taking an hour for yourself 3 times a week is far from selfish, it is self preservation. It will allow you to be a more patient parent, a better employee, it will give you the space (and the sanity!) to sing row-row-row-your-boat for the millionth time, to sit through another dinner with your mother-in-law (who hates the way you cook the carrots but will eat them anyway 😂), to make it through another mad day in the office without eating all the biscuits because you went to barre this morning and you don’t want to ruin your efforts. I always ask my clients, particularly the women ‘who is going to keep all the balls in the air if you burn out?’. Taking a few hours to yourself every week is like an insurance policy on not burning out so don’t put it off. Your health, and your sanity, is worth the hoovering not being done for an extra day. Be the star of your own show for an hour so that you can go home and be the star who sings row-row-row-your-boat at bedtime for the millionth time.
