The Pilates method was originally created in the early 1900’s by Joseph Pilates. The method focuses on the principles of concentration, control, breath, precision and flow and is still one of the most popular movement techniques in the world today. REFORMER PILATES

The Reformer is a spring based piece of equipment that Joseph Pilates himself designed, initially for rehabilitation. The Reformer is a bed-like frame, with a platform called the ‘carriage’, which rolls back and forth on wheels within the frame. The carriage is attached to one end of the Reformer by a set of springs, which provide different levels of resistance, depending on the exercise. Body weight and resistance of the springs are what make the carriage more or less difficult to move.

One of the best things about the Reformer is its versatility. The Reformer can offer a more challenging version of mat Pilates but is also an ideal option for those who are returning to exercise after a break or injury, as the machine provides more support than the mat.

The Reformer provides both resistance and support, resulting in in extremely effective workout providing enough resistance to build strong bones and muscles, building strength while increasing flexibility. Reformer Pilates in now an integral part of the training for most elite athletes, including the Irish rugby team.
